Most religious groups have written 'creeds', or statements of belief. When I was at Junior school, we had to recite the Apostle's Creed every morning, as the school was connected to an Anglican Church. As far as I remember, the words were never explained to us, so they held little significance for our lives. Since those faroff days I have come across many other Christian creeds, written or verbal, which were often obscure, divisive, and exclusive. The Bible does not use the word 'creed' and makes little attempt to formalise 'Christian Beliefs' apart from a few short statements. I do not condemn the use of Creeds - they have their place, but to understand what they are all about needs some knowledge of Church History, which most people do not possess, and for which they do not have the time, even if thay are interested!
My own basic beliefs are centred upon two statements: 'God is Love' and 'Jesus is Lord both of which are quoted in the Bible, and, to my mind, are solid foundations for anyone who claims to be a 'Christian' (follower of Jesus Christ).
'God is Love' although a simple statement, carries enormous meaning:
If God is really pure love:
Everything that He does must be consistent with His love;
which means that He always works to bring good out of all situations, as a wise and loving parent would hope to do.
He never stops loving us, no matter who we are, or what we do.
Nothing can separate us from His love!

My next post will discuss what I mean by 'Jesus is Lord'
